The Kumho Asiana group opened Kumho Gallery in Gwanhun-dong, Seoul in 1989. The gallery’s mission at the time was to discover and nurture local artists and dedicate to the enhancement of Korean art culture through exhibitions of various artists – both up-and-coming young artists and established ones. To this end, the gallery sponsored various art projects designed to provide overview of contemporary art works to general viewers. In celebration of its seventh anniversary since opening, the gallery expanded its facilities and moved to a new building in Sagan-dong in November 1996and renamed to the Kumho Museum of Art.
