Gwangju Museum of Art was the country’s first local public museum when it opened on August 1, 1992. Over the years, it has contributed to launching and developing the Gwangju Biennale, while planning various exhibitions and offering education programs for the public as part of an effort to turn Gwangju into a “culture city with a happy public.” It also offers creative support to local artists with Creative Studios in and outside the city.
