As an important session before the opening of the exhibition in 2018 “Lettres Du Voyant: Joseph Beuys x Nam June Paik”, a seminar titled “Joseph Beuys & Nam June Paik in China” will be held in How Art Museum (Shanghai) on the afternoon of January 19, 2018.

Topic for discussion

Amongst the avant-garde art trend and movement after World War II, Joseph Beuys and Nam June Paik outperformed their peers by making unrestrained exploration and broadening the boundaries of freedom with art through their passionate words, deeds and works, which also enabled them to become prophet/seer both unconsciously and consciously and leave over abundant ideological and aesthetic heritage to future generations.

In Europe and the United States, Joseph Beuys and Nam June Paik have been widely known to the public through years of cultural communication and exchange. However, they are not so familiar to most Chinese people. Therefore, their relationship with the Chinese context is of rich interest.

At the seminar, discussion will be held among international well-known curators and Chinese experts and scholars on the relationship between the two prophet artists and the Chinese context.
