The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA, director Youn Bummo), presented MMCA Gwacheon Project 2020, a site-specific outdoor installation project, from Thursday, 8 October 2020, to Sunday, 30 May 2021, at MMCA Gwacheon.

MMCA Gwacheon Project is an installation project initiated this year by the MMCA in an effort to vitalize the outdoor space of MMCA Gwacheon. This project aims to present works that reflect the qualities specific to the site of MMCA Gwacheon and offer artistic experiences that allow for the audience to interact with the museum’s natural surroundings. Within the particular context of the COVID-19 crisis that has settled in as a global pandemic, this project reinterprets the open space that is “outdoors,” proposing it as an environment in 2 which visitors can breathe and relax. With “breath,” “rest,” and “joy” as the three theme words, this year’s project seeks to transform the grass field of the MMCA Gwacheon’s Sculpture Garden into a spatial installation dedicated to visitors.
