Lisson Gallery is presenting a solo exhibition of Lee Ufan, 《Response》 through January 22, 2022 at Bell Street London. This is Lee Ufan's first exhibition in London, showcasing 6 new paintings and 4 works on paper, following his public sculpture, 'Relatum-Stage'(2018). 'Relatum-Stage' is a new sculptural commission work, will be installed outside the Serpentine Gallery in Kensington Gardens on February 6. In celebration of this new commission, Lee Ufan will be in conversation with Serpentine Galleries Artistic Director, Hans Ulrich Obrist, on February 6 at 6pm, at the Korean Cultural Centre UK.

Lee Ufan(1964) lives and works betweeen Japan and Paris. He is a founding member and pioneer of the avant-garde, and Mono-ha movement. He use his body performatively in the creation of each work ; he paints from a position above the canvas, and lies on a wooden plank placed over the surface of the work, like a bridge. As such, the artist feels he is a part of the canvas and can immerse himself within it.

In this exhibition, Lee Ufan presents paintings and works on paper from a new series entitled "Response", produced in recent year from his studio in paris. These minimal white canvases are defined by singular sweeps of crylic, expanding on the concept to anchor the work to "the encounter", a moment in time and space when the brush marks the canvas. His practice has always been deeply philosophical, but these works are produced by a period of intense refleciton for Lee.
