The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA) presents the exhibition MMCA Hyundai Motor Series 2022: Choe U-Ram–Little Ark from Friday, 9 September 2022, to Sunday, 26 February 2023 at MMCA Seoul. This is artist Choe U-Ram’s first exhibition at MMCA Seoul in nearly ten years, following the year-long site specific installation project Opertus Lunula Umbra, which he presented for MMCA Seoul’s opening in 2013. It is also his first exhibition anywhere in the five years since his solo show at the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts in 2017, not to mention his first solo exhibition at MMCA.

The exhibition directs a transparent gaze and a message of comfort to people today who must navigate the turbulent age of disorientation, encouraging us to each devise our own navigational approach to move slowly forward toward true symbiosis. By blending advanced technology with commonly encountered materials such as old cardboard boxes, straws, the fabric used in protective gear, and old car parts, the artist expresses hope for harmony and balance in life. The exhibition features a total of 53 works from different genres, including 12 installations and sculptures, a video, and 36 drawings. Apart from four of them—URC-1 (2014), URC-2 (2016), Cakra Lamp (2013), and One (2020)—the remaining 49 are new works created for this exhibition.
