D Museum presents PLASTIC FANTASTIC from September 14 2017 to March 4 2018, a unique exhibition showcasing the meeting of the artistic imagination of internationally acclaimed designers with the unlimited possibilities of plastic, the substance also known as the miracle material of the 20th century. Through more than 2,700 artworks, items of products, furniture, lights, graphic design, and photographs produced over the past half century through the individual and innovative spirit of some 40 international creators, PLASTIC FANTASTIC illustrates the magical development of plastic as it entered and brought wide-ranging transformation to the realm of our everyday lives
A key highlight of PLASTIC FANTASTIC is its exploration of the close collaboration between the preeminent figures of design and Kartell, the leading Italian design firm that has pioneered plastic innovation over three generations. In a selection of remarkable works handpicked from Kartell’s vast archive, viewers will experience a sense of Italy's uniquely humorous and bold design through a combination of advertising graphics, illustrations, as well as photographs captured by the perspectives of some of the most distinguished contemporary photographers. Broadly divided into six sections, the exhibition explores the 60-year history of plastic from various angles and brings forth an opportunity to meet some of the most noteworthy figures from the world of design. In the same spirit of the word plastic, which originates from the Greek word plassein meaning “to mould,” PLASTIC FANTASTIC illustrates the organic evolution between this endlessly flexible, ever-changing material and artistic expression, through the works that capture the magical moments when the imaginations of master designers come together with plastic to produce pure innovation.
