The Busan Biennale Organizing Committee has announced that Cristina Ricupero and Jörg Heiser have been appointed as Artistic Directors of the Busan Biennale 2018.

The Busan Biennale 2018 introduced an unusual open call process for the selection of an artistic director, and Ricupero and Heiser, who collaborated as a team for the Busan Biennale, were selected as the final candidates.

Cristina Ricupero, a curator based in Paris, has been working closely with the Korean art scene as a commissioner of the Europe section of the 2006 Gwangju Biennale, a judge of 2012 Hermès Foundation Missulsang award, and a curatorial advisor for Seoul Mediacity 2016. Ricupero’s major exhibitions include Nuit Blanche Monaco (2016) and New Way of Doing Nothing (2014), which was co-curated with Heiser.

Jörg Heiser, a London-based editor, worked for art magazine Frieze for over 20 years and is currently a professor at Universität der Künste Berlin (Berlin University of the Arts). Heiser will lead the 2018 Busan Biennale with Ricupero.

Now that artistic directors have been selected, the committee will gradually disclose the theme and participating artists.
