On June 15, there had been an opening of Museum of Contemporary Art Busan (Director, Kim Seong-youn, MOCA BUSAN) as a public art museum focusing on contemporary art.


“The inaugural exhibition presents the museum’s direction, reflects on our society, and provides insight on the imminent future to find the true implication of art that the new world demands, by focusing on nature, new media, and human,” said Kim Seong-youn, the director of MoCA Busan.


The inaugural exhibition of MoCA Busan will continue until August 12th, as an experimental site connecting locality and the world, daily life and art, and today and tomorrow, making Eulsukdo an island of art that receives and communicates diverse imaginative thoughts and values.



■ EXHIBITIONS

《Vertical Garden》

Permanent Installation

Vertical garden at the exterior wall of the art museum. Patrick Blanc connected to his own exhibition with the same name, created new recognition and developed discourse on nature and art. His project is made up of 175 species of local plants planted on the exterior wall of the art museum, acknowledging harmony of nature and art at Eulsukdo (179th Natural Reservation), where the art museum is located.

《People Walking the Future》

A group exhibition of 5 Asian artists (individuals/teams) including Taehun Kang, Mioon, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Jun Nguyen-Hatsushiba, and Chen Chieh-jen.

Tobias Rehberger : Yourself Is Sometimes a Place to Call Your Own》

Permanent Installation

A giant installation attracting engagement of visitors, and a series of patterned paintings on the wall, at the lobby on the first floor.


At the lobby, the visitors experienced diverse contemporary artworks with various forms and methods, including “Yourself Is sometimes a Place to Call Your Own”, a series of giant installations by Tobias Rehberger.
