The 2nd Yinchuan Biennale had been geared up under the theme - 'Starting from the Desert. Ecologies on the Edge.'Marco Scotini, curator of the 2nd Yinchuan Biennale has chosen as the exhibition's starting point, on the western borders of China, the geographical status of the site; Between sand and water.
Titled 'Starting from the Desert. Ecologies on the Edge, the exhibition considers how new ecologies might arise from nomadism with flanking geographies: the desert and the marshland, divided by the Yellow River in China's northwestern Ningxia province.
With the work of 90 artists from over 30 countries and regions, the line-up conveys especially particular concern to the western borders of China (from Mongolia to Central and Southeast Asia) in a way that is consistent with investigative methods. However the context on Art now in terms of World white cube ground, also well weighed on the exhibition such as Kimmsooja, Kyong Park, Zhuang Hui and so on. Those big name appealed with the subtle dry land call, as it guarantees the brand-new biennale's specific place to present in deseted Nothern-part of China and Eurasian continet.
The Sections of the exhibition planning;
1.Nomadic Space and Rural Space
2.Labor-in-Nature and Nature-in-Labor
3.The vocie and The Book
4.Minorities and Multiplicity
Through the sections for view, as for ways of curation, the common thing is that Art works varied from scrapping the subtle and delicate voices, wandering the vast boundless plain. Those ways are anchoring in a form of Art in the Eurasian city, yinchuan within Biennale package. Whether whoever is cenophobia or vast-plateau holic, this time is very new wecoming experiece to get invovled in very new concept with newer eco-corcumstances.
