Kukje Gallery has announced its participation in the inaugural edition of Frieze Los Angeles (hereafter Frieze LA) at Paramount Pictures Studios from February 15 to 17, 2019. Widely considered the most cutting edge top-tier international art fair, Frieze is also held annually in New York in May and in London for its Contemporary and Masters editions in October. The inaugural edition of Frieze LA will bring together 70 of the most significant contemporary galleries from across the city and around the globe to showcase works by a roster of important contemporary artists, alongside a curated program of talks, site-specific artists’ projects, and films.

Home to The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, the Hammer Museum, and Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the largest art museum on the West Coast, in addition to acclaimed private museums and internationally renowned galleries, Los Angeles has risen through the ranks as one of the world’s most dynamic contemporary arts cities. Victoria Siddall, the Director of Frieze Fairs, has remarked that “[t]he extremely positive reaction to Frieze Los Angeles from galleries is testament to the importance of this city which is so rich in great artists, museums, galleries, and art schools,” underlining her reasons for selecting Los Angeles as the new location for Frieze.

Specially curated for Frieze LA, Kukje Gallery’s booth includes works by critically acclaimed modern and contemporary artists including 〈Splayed 23〉(2015) by the American conceptual artist Jenny Holzer. Works by other international artists include 〈siebenundzwanzigsteroktoberzweitausendundsiebzehn〉(2017) by the Swiss contemporary artist Ugo Rondinone, who will open his second solo exhibition with Kukje Gallery in May; 〈Ecriture (描法) No. 201-85〉(1985) by Park Seo-Bo, one of the masters of Dansaekhwa who will be the subject of a comprehensive solo exhibition this year at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea; iconic “dot paintings” by Kim Yong-Ik; along with 〈What you see is the unseen / Chandeliers for Five Cities DSR04-D-02〉(2015) by Kyungah Ham, and etc.
