siren eun young jung's screening and artist talk will be at Centre Pompidou Paris, on 27th June. Born in 1974 in South Korea, siren eun young jung lives and works in Seoul. Her prolific and varied work ranges from video to performance, installation and photography. Over the last few years, Jung has been exploring the rapidly declining legacy of the yeoseong gukgeuk, an all-female Korean stage art which was popular in the 1950s and 1960s. Centre Pompidou presents 〈Act of Affect〉 (2013, 15'35) and 〈Deferral Theatre〉 (2018, 35'05) for the first time in France. In these films, jung questions the impact of the yeoseong gukgeuk movement on issues of gender, sexuality and identity. Jung won the Korea Artist Prize in 2018 and currently represents Korea at the Venice Biennale of 2019.
