2020 KAFA Award for the Visual Arts Application Guidelines
KAFA selects one artist biennially (even numbered years) and awards $15,000 to
the winner. The purpose of the award is to facilitate the capability for realizing
creative endeavors, enhance, encourage and nurture artistic accomplishments,
and acknowledge the presence of outstanding Korean-American artists. The
awardee’s artwork will be exhibited in the Los Angeles area.
A total award of $15,000 will be given to the selected artist in two installments of
US$7,500. The first sum will be awarded upon selection, and the remaining will
be awarded at the KAFA Awardee Exhibition opening the following year at the
Korean Cultural Center, Los Angeles.

A $30 application fee is required. Fees are applied to administration and program development.
Applicants must submit the following via email:
Completed application form providing contact details, description of background and qualifications, and other related information
CV and brief biography
Artist Statement
Work samples (up to 20 images in a PDF)
Up to five pages of supporting documentation (i.e. reviews, statements, essays, interviews, e-catalogues)
Guidelines for Visual Artwork Submissions
Applicants should submit a PDF including the following:
Full name
Up to 20 images of artwork made within the past five years
Title, date, medium, dimensions of each work
File size not to exceed 15MB
Guidelines for Video/Audio Artwork Submissions
Applicants should submit a PDF including the following:
Full name
Web link addresses to video or audio clips hosted on external sites (Vimeo, etc.)
Passwords for protected videos
Minimum of two videos, maximum of four videos
Excerpts should not exceed three minutes
Title, date, length
File size not to exceed 15MB
Eligibility
Visual artists of all media are eligible.
Applicant must be either a US citizen of Korean ancestry, Korean with permanent residency status in the US, or otherwise approved by the Board.
Applicants must show a continued commitment to the visual arts, and should have received some professional recognition.
An application fee of $30.00 must be made payable to KAFA.
You cannot be enrolled as a full-time student at the time of application submission.
