Kukje Gallery, which has established a reputation as a pivotal cultural hub in Seoul, Korea, since its inception in 1982, will open its newly renovated K1 building to the public on June 18, 2020. Initially founded in Seoul’s Insa-dong by chairman Hyun-Sook Lee, the gallery relocated in 1987 to its iconic K1 building in the heart of Samcheong-dong, an area rich with historical and cultural context. Currently, Kukje Gallery operates across four unique spaces, designated as K1 (1987), K2 (2007), and K3 (2012), as well as the recently opened Kukje Gallery Busan (2018). The gallery, which celebrates its 38th anniversary this year, welcomes a significant moment in its history and a new beginning, with the reopening of its historic K1 building.

Comprised of an expanded gallery space facing the iconic streetscape of Samcheong-dong, a café and restaurant area installed with works by contemporary artists, and a wellness center that seeks to integrate visual art with a healthy lifestyle, the renovated K1 space is modelled on the concept of a multi-use arts complex.
