Städelschule in Frankfurt, Germany, announced that Haegue Yang has been appointed professor of Fine Art.

South Korean sculptor and installation artist Haegue Yang, born in 1971 in Seoul, currently divides her time between Berlin and Seoul. Yang will begin her tenure at the start of the 2017 winter semester; she succeeds Professor Michael Krebber who left the Städelschule in February 2016 after fourteen years on the faculty.

Yang received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Seoul National University’s Fine Arts College in 1994 and, in 1999, a Meisterschülerin degree from the Städelschule, where she studied under Georg Herold.

Yang recently featured work in “Quasi-Pagan Serial” at the Hamburger Kunsthalle and “Lingering Nous” at the Centre Pompidou, Paris, and held a solo show “Ornament and Abstraction” in Kurimanzutto, Mexico City. Yang’s notable previous solo presentations took place at prominent institutions such as Aspen Art Museum, Aspen; Kunsthaus Bregenz, Bregenz; and the New Museum, New York. She was included in the last Montreal Biennale in 2016, dOCUMENTA (13) in 2012, and the 53rd Venice Biennale in 2009.
