MMCA will open National Conservation Center in Cheongju

The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA) announced that it will proceed to establish the National Art Conservation Center in Cheongju to improve national artwork management and provide greater cultural experiences to the public.

The National Conservation Center is scheduled to be completed in November 2018 and will open in December. The main purpose of the National Art Conservation Center is to preserve the cultural value of artworks and utilize the pieces as national and social cultural assets. It will also provide a stable art storage and management space, preserve and manage state-owned art pieces, and prompt social utilization of the artworks through exhibition, education, and cultural activities.

In particular, the National Art Conservation Center is planning to open a conservation research center as a national organization to strengthen capacity and expertise in art conservation and restoration.
