Kim Sun-Jung, director of the Art Sonje Center, has been appointed as the president of the Gwangju Biennale Foundation for a three-year term.
“Kim is the right person who has a broad network around the global art world, along with managing skills and art expertise,” said the Gwangju Biennale Committee. Following the appointment of the new president, the foundation will name the artistic director for the Gwangju Biennale 2018 by the end of August.
Kim previously co-directed the 2012 Gwangju Biennale “Roundtable,” which hosted 92 participating artists from 40 countries across the world. Kim also served as an art director of Mediacity Seoul 2010 and commissioned the Korean Pavilion at the 2005 Venice Biennale.
Gwangju Biennale, established by the foundation in 1994, will hold its 12th event in the summer of 2018.
